As humanity’s understanding of animals gradually depended over thousands of years, it also had a large impact on the changing shapes and ornamentation of the bronze wares. The majority ofbronze wares made in the shape of animals are lifelike and full of vitality. These animals, though based on reality, seem to possess a power of their own. Their various shapes and patterns are imbued with a mysterious authority and seem blessed with new life.

More than 60 pieces (sets) of the animal-shaped bronze artworks were in this exhibition. In order of age, the artifacts range from the Shang and Zhou Dynasties right up to the Ming and       Qing Dynasties, including pieces of incomparable beauty, such as the ‘elephant- shaped zun’‘boar-shaped zun’, and pieces made with unique technical skill such as the ‘bronze bull lamp’ and the ‘beast-shaped gilt bronze incense burner’. Through the long corridor of time, visitors are led on a journey of exploration of the wonderful world of animals hidden in the bronze wares and witness the unique design and aesthetic appeal of the wisdom of the ancients.
